I'm working with the fabulous people at Field Trip Theatre again --this time, on Somersaulting, an adaptation of an amazing graphic novel by Sammy Harkham. Come see it on Monday, February 10, at 7pm. We'll be at The Pinch in Columbia Heights.
The play follows best friends Iris and Edie during the long summer before their senior year of high school. Set in a run-down beach town, this story explores the girls’ changing perceptions of death, love, and sex, urging them into adulthood while constantly reminding them that friendships don’t always last a lifetime.
Directed by Amanda Coffin. Dramaturgy by Laura Esti Miller. Starring Emma Kate Jackson, Anna Lynch, William Hayes, Eugene Fertelmeyster, Matthew Strote, and Peg Nichols.
Tickets are free, but reservations are required. Visit somersaulting.eventbrite.com for tickets.
After an in-house run this past September, Theater Alliance is opening up its second bake-off project to the public. A brainchild of playwright Paula Vogel, a bake-off is an experimental exercise for writers that challenges us to work rapidly to produce new pieces of theater. Playwrights are given a list of “ingredients” that must be incorporated into the new pieces, and in our case, a writing time of Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. Egads!
Playwrights Psalmayene 24, Lee August Praley, and myself will write and present our second round of new plays at the Anacostia Arts Center on Sunday, January 5, at 2pm. Join us!
